Informationen/information |
In 1919 Riley produced a very successful 10.8 hp sports car. The 12 hp 11/40 type engine was new in 1925 and was said to perform as well as the famous Redwings of the period. The model continued in production until 1928, when it was replaced by the Riley Six. The side valve, four cylinder engine drove through a four speed manual gearbox with cone clutch and semi-floating spiral bevel rear axle.
This example appears to have been built to export specifications and supplied new in chassis form to Australia, where it received the local four seat touring body. During the war the body was converted to a ‘Ute’ and was subsequently laid up in a country garage for some 40 years. Rescued in the 1990’s by enthusiast Bernie Jacobson, it was totally stripped down and rebuilt with a very pretty, new body by Coachcraft of Melbourne. Now offered for sale with V5C registration certificate and a large file containing images of the motor car and information about the rebuild, plus an interesting article stressing the fact that ‘to reduce the bugbear of periodic lubrication to a minimum, there are only 6 lubrication points, apart from the engine itself.’ |
